EgyptAir has announced a new four- times a week service to Lusaka in Zambia. This was announced by the Egyptian Ambassador to Zambia Salah El Sadek during a reception at his residence in Lusaka.
He said that it was a great honour and a dream come true that EgyptAir had finally managed to break into the Zambian booming market. He said with the economic growth taking place in Zambia, EgyptAir would now link more Zambians to Asia and other parts of the world easily through its advanced network.
EgyptAir will start operation to Lusaka from January 16th, 2011 on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. EgyptAir runs a fleet of 66 planes with the jewels being the A330-300 Airbus and the Boeing 737 and is a member of an elite 27-member team, the Star Alliance that has among other partners Air China, Lufthansa and the US Airways.
Mr. Sadek said the Zambian route would start with the flight making a 45 minutes stopover in Tanzania, then make the flight direct to Cairo after six months.
This development is good for Zambia as it offers an opportunity to connect more with Egypt which is a highly developed country. We desire that more Egyptians come to Zambia and boost our tourism as we have something in Livingstone that is equal to the Pyramids,” he said.
“With the new service to Lusaka EgyptAir Africa network would reach 18 destinations with a total 102 weekly flights and we aspire to cover 46 African destinations through our agreements with fellow African firms, South Africa Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines,” he said.
