Air Namibia has introduced a new flight between Johannesburg and Walvis Bay, Namibia`s major harbour town. According to the Airline, the introduction of the new flight route is a response to market demand.
It is also based on the airline’s decision to expand its route market with the focus on Walvis Bay, which is fast developing into a sought-after haven for spending a holiday at the sea. It has potential for growth and therefore requires improved air transport infrastructure and services.
‘The additional route capacity is a direct result of our market research which showed significant increasing for regional travel between Namibia and neighbouring South Africa,” said Air Namibia.
Air Namibia currently operates three weekly flights between Cape Town and Walvis Bay using the Boeing 737-500. The Johannesburg- Walvis Bay route would be serviced by the newly acquired Embraer ERJ135.
Air Namibia has been on a quest to improve its performance, amid constant negative publicity regarding its financial standing over the last years.
Late last year, the national airline said it has recorded an increase in passenger numbers between Windhoek and South Africa and an above average performance on the routes to West Africa.
